Josh Ortiz is a 2022 RHP/1B, 3B with a 6-1 245 lb. frame from Portage, IN who attends Portage. Recorded a 8.23 second sixty yard dash time. Large frame and thick build with present strength. Primary right-handed pitcher, works from the first base side of the mound and comes from a three-quarters slot. Utilizes drop and drive lower half mechanics and a medium arm action, creates nice downward plane on the fastball and it showed good life at the top of the zone as well. Has the ability to locate to all quadrants of the zone with the fastball, changeup flashed good fade. Also featured a curveball with 12-6 shape and solid depth. Secondary first baseman, fields it out front with a clean funnel to the center, can make the routine plays and showed accurate throws to the bag. Right-handed hitter with a wide base and a high hand and back elbow set. Limited stride/load and quiet operation overall but produces good bat speed and loud contact to the pull side. Can elevate at contact, hit one off the fence during his round. Aggressive swinger that finds barrel more often than not, can hit to both sides of the field and has present barrel control. Good showing during BP, projects for power. Great student. Named to the 2021 Fall Midwest Workout Showcase Top Prospect List.
