2005 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase
Danny Kern is a 2006 SS/RHP from Stoneman Douglas High School in Pompano Beach, FL, with a 5'11'', 165 lb. frame. A lean and athletic player who plays the game the way it should be played, and he is fun to watch. Defensively he has a strong arm from shortstop with solid actions. Kern has smooth footwork with good hands, and showed plus body control on slow rollers. He also does a great job turning the double play. At he plate he is a switch hitter with a line drive swing plane from both sides. Kern has good bat speed and makes consistently solid contact. He can make adjustments with his hands and uses the whole field. On the mound he throws from a 3/4 arm slot with clean arm action and plus arm speed. Kern has a balanced and online delivery with late life on his fastball that topped out at 84 mph. He keeps his fastball down in the zone and works the corners staying away from the heart of the plate. His best pitch is a tight curveball at 71 mph with 11 to 5 break, and he also mixes in a solid changeup at 68 mph. He is a good two-way prospect who needs to be followed.
