Christopher Martinez is a 2008 C/OF with a 6'2'', 210 lb. frame from Lake City FL, who attends Columbia HS. He has an older, mature build and very good present strength. Martinez threw 75 mph during drills and had a best pop time of 1.97. His catching actions are long right now but he has good body life and arm strength. Offensively, Martinez takes an aggressive swing with a hand hitch trigger and a long, lifting swing with good bat speed. He starts open and never closes. The ball jumps on contact and Martinez has good gap to gap power when he makes contact. Contact might be an issue with the effort and lack of balance he has in his swing. The overall impression that Martinez gives is a raw talent who hasn't had much instruction but has the physical tools to improve if he has the aptitude. Martinez is also a good student.
