2022 South Prospect Showcase
Matthew Johnson is a 2026 SS/OF with a 5-8 150 lb. frame from Orange, TX who attends Orangefield. Medium frame with a lean athletic build. Ran a 7.32 second 60-yard dash. Primary shortstop, moves around the dirt well with athleticism to actions, rounds the ball well and plays through it with good intent, hands work and upper-70s arm strength on accurate throws across. Athleticism translates to outfield, clean footwork and solid funnel, maintains momentum and accurate with low throws. Right-handed hitter, narrow start and short move in, compact stroke on a level path, some intent to go the other way but struggled some with barrel accuracy, enough quickness to produce some impact just needs to improve consistency.
