2021 Pittsburgh Indoor Showcase (Sunday)
Ethan Smith is a 2022 C/2B with a 5-7 165 lb. frame from Lancaster, PA who attends Hempfield HS. Ethan is a medium framed, physically maturing athlete who has a sound fundamental skill foundation that should continue to grow his game over his last two years of HS ball. In addition to his solid skills on the diamond, Ethan is also an accomplished student. He ran a 7.97 60 yard dash. A primary catcher, Ethan presents a low profile at the ready. The fluidity in his actions is advanced and noticeable. Easy receiving style. Softer hands. Shows truly quick feet in transition and bounces out of the chute well. His 70 mph throwing velocity allows for a consistent 2.29 pop time. Good approach and something to build on. At the plate, Ethan employs a fairly simple and routine operation that really works for him. His slightly closed and narrow stance allows for a smooth and quiet load and trigger. His hands work well to get his barrel to and through contact consistently. His path is more pull side oriented and he shows some pop when his timing was right. As Ethan progresses through his last two years of HS and travel ball, adds maturing strength and is exposed to higher level competition, his game should jump a level. His approach and effort are outstanding. His energy and effort level will serve him well as he continues in his career.
