2007 Hawaii Showcase Tournament
Paul Sandoval is a 2007 LHP/OF with a 5'9'', 185 lb. frame from Anaheim CA, who attends Tustin HS. He has a thick, stocky build with some present day strength. Sandoval was listed at 185 lbs. but looked bigger than that, especially if his 5'9" height is accurate. Sandoval had most of his success in the event with his big overhand curveball. He has a long arm action and gets out to decent frontside extension. He angles his fastball pretty well too and threw strikes with both the 77-80 mph fastball and the 65-66 mph curveball. At the plate Sandoval is an aggressive hitter, with a pullside approach. He wants to hit for power and does have some pop. On pitches in his zone Sandoval can put a good swing on them and do some damage. His offensive approach and tendencies likely will lead to some struggles at the college level. He would appear to have more upside on the mound and his curveball has a chance to be a quality pitch as he develops.
