Michael Guglielmo is a 2007 RHP/OF with a 6'0'', 165 lb. frame from Lafayette CA, who attends Acalanes HS. Selected as a Top Prospect at this event. Gulglielmo is good now and his ability on the mound certainly would play in a relief role as a college freshman. However, he has more than that to offer long term. He is competitive and competes from pitch to pitch. His competitiveness appeared to be directed at making and executing pitches, rather than focusing on getting a result from the hitter. He was very fun to watch. Guglielmo has a lean, lanky body that still has a lot of room to fill out, with fairly wide shoulder and long arms. He pitches from an over the top slot with a quick, short arm action that allows him to hide the ball, making his stuff that much more effective. His delivery is simple and happens with easy effort. Guglielmo is a quick worker who pitches with poise and confidence. He also has excellent feel for the ball. He has pitchability with all his offerings, particularly his breaking ball. His fastball topped at 87 and sat 84-87 mph. He showed the same type of velocity in his second outing, the very next day, showing good arm resiliency. Guglielmo consistently kept the fastball down, with late life. He forces hitters to hit his pitch. He threw two breaking balls, a curveball and a slider/cutter. The curveball flashes as plus pitch and was consistently above average, with tight spin and late depth. The curveball has the type of late action that gets hitters to start their bats. The late, sharp downer action on that pitch consistently missed barrels and elicited swing and miss hacks. Guglielmo threw quality strikes to both sides of the plate with the curveball and even showed the ability to change the shape of the pitch, making it more slider-like at times. That pitch was also very effective. Guglielmo is a baseall player on the mound. He fields his position very well and approaches hitters like he understands hitting, which he does. Guglielmo is also a nice position player. He has an easy, contact-oppo swing and very good bat control, showing feel with the bat. He is short to the ball, lets it travel, and keeps his hands inside. Guglielmo runs the bases well, showing good instincts by reading balls in the dirt and breaking quickly. In the outfield he reads the ball well, has a good arm and can play defense. Follow him closely, he can play and is just scratching the surface of the type of player he is going to be.
