Gabriel Velasquez is a 2028 SS with a 5-7 136 lb. frame from Maracaibo, ZU who attends Liceo Los Robles. Young, athletic frame with a lean build and room to fill throughout and grow moving forward. Ran a 7.58 60-yard dahs. Primary shortstop, shows idea with footwork and able to execute, rounds the backhand and works through it nicely, quickness in footwork, shows ability to lower slot when needed with accuracy and carry across. Right-handed hitter, begins with a high hand set and back elbow at the plate with a slightly open stance, gets closed with front foot moving into contact. Utilizes a longer stride moving into contact, loose swing with a full path through the zone, works on a linear plane with consistent contact to the pull side. Strength in swing will continue to develop, contact oriented approach and showed ability to go the other way in live action. Excellent student.
