Jahir Velez is a 2023 1B/LHP with a 5-7 140 lb. frame from Hatillo, PR who attends AIA Arecibo PR. Recorded a 8.01 second sixty-yard dash time. Smaller, compact frame with young look and plenty of room to mature physically. Primary first baseman with a developing defensive skill set; incorporates deliberate footwork into the fielding process, while exhibiting a clean funnel out in front and decent turns. Consistent fielder with developing arm strength up to 64 mph in drills. Secondary left-handed pitcher that incorporated a small side-step rocker into a belt high left and a shorter stride out to foot strike. Works from a lower three-quarters arm slot, repeating his release point well and working it up to 67 mph in this look. Left-handed hitter that hits from a wide, spread stance with slight crouch and liner stride out to launch. Middle-to-opposite field approach with slightly elongated swing path and some developing feel for the barrel. Will continue to improve with proper swing adjustments and additional strength.
