2021 National Underclass Showcase-Main Event
CJ Buchan is a 2024 C/RHP, 1B, 3B with a 5-10 185 lb. frame from Toano, VA who attends Hampton Roads Academy. Well balanced, athletic overall frame with a lot of opportunity continue growth. Ran the 60 yard dash in 8.28 seconds. Primary position C who sits in nice and deep behind the plate and showed quick feet as he transitioned to release. He created a nice line, gaining ground on his throws and used a longer arm path for behind the plate. His throws registered pop times in the 2.1 range, produced velocity up to 71 mph and were accurately on the bag most of the time. Also took reps at 1B where he showed nice footwork and tight turns on his throws. Velocity on his infield throws reached 74 mph and showed nice carry and accuracy. The glove worked well here and seemed to know his way around the bag. RHH using a narrow and slightly open stance leading him to a bigger leg lift for his trigger. His load was simple and he uses his base well as he attacks the ball with intent and strength. He turns his torso hard and works to elevate the ball to the pull side. His hands are strong and there is bat head awareness, he was consistently on the barrel in game action. Outstanding student and his bat will play all the way up the line.
