Jake Klein is a 2023 C/3B with a 6-0 160 lb. frame from Vernon, NJ who attends Vernon Twp. Large, athletic frame with square shoulders and a lean, projectable build, has room to fill throughout. Ran a 7.20 60-yard dash. Primary catcher, athletic set up behind the plate, receives the ball out front, gains ground with lower half, quick transfer into a tight release, ball comes out of hand cleanly and shows true carry to second base, defensive actions played nice in live action. Also pitched, leg lift just up past belt, some cave on backside, works to an extended three-quarters release point, tall finish towards the plate. Stays short with arm action, ball comes out cleanly, shows nice life to fastball when down in the zone, topped out at 80 mph. Mixed a slurve breaker up to 69 mph with 10-4 shape and occasional tilt to it given release point. Right-handed hitter, begins with an even stance and a high hand set and back elbow at the plate; utilizes a leg lift trigger for timing in the box. Keeps hands inside the ball, works on a linear path through the zone, stays short with swing and through point of contact. Handled the barrel well in live action, shows strength in hands and can work to all fields, occasionally gets to front side early. Good student. Named to Fall Connecticut Top Prospect List.
