Ricky Oropesa is a 2008 3B/1B/RHP with a 6'2'', 215 lb. frame from Rancho Cucamonga, CA who attends Etiwanda HS. He has a extra strong, mature build and is an intimidating presence at the plate. Oropesa has a big load and coil at the plate and a lift/power type of swing. The ball explodes off his bat and he has as much raw power as any hitter in the 2008 class. Oropesa's multi-part trigger and long swing creates some timing issues but when he's on a pitch and squares up the ball comes off his bat with big league velocity and he can hit the ball out to any field. Defensively, Oropesa has excellent arm strength at third base and playable agility and hands. If he works hard he can stay at third base as he matures. Should something happen with his bat, Oropesa could be a top prospect on the mound as well. He threw up to 94 mph from a power overhand release point that created a heavy downhill angle to his fastball. The velocity came easily for him and he showed command of his fastball. Selected to 2007 Aflac All-American team.
