Nicholas Carrillo is a 2008 3B/P/1B with a 6'2'', 215 lb. frame from Glendale, AZ who attends Sandra Day O'Connor HS. He has a big and strong body that is a bit on the soft side at the moment. Carrillo was hit by a line drive in the face early in the high school season this spring and is still feeling the effects of that injury and one area is in his conditioning. Carrillo has a pull/power approach at the plate and the bat speed and strength to pull it off. He tends to commit early to pitches and get his hips open and out front early and is hunting pitches on the inside half that he can drive. He has some lift and upper cut in his swing plane and can hit the ball a long way. He may not hit for a high average at the next level put his power will always be a big threat. Defensively, Carrillo has very good arm strength and soft hands at third base. His extra weight has affected his mobility and he'll potentially have to move over to first base in the future. Carrillo has prospect ability on the mound, too. He has thrown 90 mph frequently in the past with a loose and free arm action. He was 84-87 mph in Cincinnati with a slider that showed some sharpness at 75 mph. Carrillo is a good student who has a verbal comittment to Gonzaga.
