Samuel Garcia is a 2020 1B/LHP, OF with a 6-3 210 lb. frame from Wilmington, NC who attends Emsley A Laney. Large frame with broad shoulders and present strength. Primary first baseman with smooth paced footwork while working off the bag and surrounding the baseball. Funnels out front and worked through exchange efficiently. Released from three-quarters arm slot producing accurate, on line carry to the bag topping at 84 mph. Left handed hitter with an upright, open stance and simple front side trigger. Stays taller throughout swing while employing a loose, slightly lifted barrel plane. Showed good strength at contact and generated loud, hard contact off the barrel to the gaps when squared. Also pitched utilizing a simple side step to high leg lift delivery. Medium arm circle and released from an extended three-quarters slot. Fastball flashed good jump out of hand with heavy actions through the zone in the low to mid 80's, topped at 84 mph. Slider flashed two planes with tight spin and good sweep to glove side in the mid 70's. Also showed a changeup offering that flashed some run back to arm side in the mid 70's. Consistently attacked the strike zone and effectively changed speeds. Excellent student. Named to the 2019 West Academic Showcase, Top Prospect List.
