Ben Hornsby is a 2008 LHP with a 5'10'', 130 lb. frame from Tyrone GA, who attends Sandy Creek HS. He has a lean young body that hasn't begun to add strength yet. Hornsby throws with an easy, tension free delivery and a long, slinging arm action. His release point is high 3/4's and he does a good job of repeating his mechanics, which enables him to throw consistent strikes with all three of his pitches. Hornsby's fastball was 75-78 mph and touched 80 with good lefty tailing life. His 67 mph curveball and 70 mph change up both had good quality and consistency. Hornsby had excellent composure on the mound and not only mixed his pitches and locations like a veteran, he fielded his position very well and did everything a pitcher can to maximize his game potential. He's a competitor who looks like he's serious about winning. Hornsby will pitch above his tools but the big question will be how much strength and velocity he can add to his slender frame. If you hear about him throwing in the mid-80's, pay attention because he'll be a solid prospect. Hornsby is also a good student.
