Greg Holle is a 2007 right hand hitting outfielder/right hand pitcher from Christian Brothers Academy, residing in Loudonville, NY. Holle has a long, lean, athletic build on a projectable 6'8" 210 lb. frame that brings to mind a player like Richie Sexson. Holle is intriguing, both as a position player and as a pitcher. He was ranked #25 among PG National Top 100 position players but as a pitcher alone was good enough to be ranked in the top 30 PG National pitchers. Time will tell which way he goes... hitter or pitcher. At the plate Holle has a sweeping swing plane that produces some present day power and the promise of above average future power. He has some bat speed and is pretty short to the ball. There is a hitch in his swing which can cause some swing inconsistencies, but it works for him as a timing mechanism. Not only does Holle look like Richie Sexson, but his swing even bares a resemblance to that of Sexon's. Follow his bat, there is some juice in there. In the field Holle has good corner outfielder skills. He is a good runner in terms of underway speed and has a strong arm, suitable for right field. It is on the mound that Holle seems to have the brightest future. He has a quick, live arm and a clean, easy arm action that produces more velocity than it looks like that effort level should. He is short on the backside and hides the ball a bit. His delivery stays on line to the plate, maintaining good balance throughout. Holle's fastball topped at 92 and sat in the 88-90 range. He also threw the fastball with good control. There was not a lot of arm side life on his fastball, but it is in there, particularly with a two seam grip and more extension. Holle's curveball varied from a 11/5 breaker to a 12/6 type. At times there was hard bit on that pitch. His change-up had some arm side run and he threw it with ok feel. Holle ran 4.77 home/1st with an impressive 6.89 laser time 60 yard dash. A scout can dream a bit on Holle, whether it is at the plate or on the mound. He is a D1 prospect and an intriguing professional prospect that could take off in the very near future. For that reason (due in large part to his athleticism and plus build), Holle could be a pretty high pick this year, especially for an organization that has a strong track record of player development.
