Russell Doi is a 2008 MIF from Mid-Pacific Institute, residing in Honolulu, HI with a 5'7" 120 lb. frame. Doi is a good young player and at the writing of this report has a thin but lean body type. He has good body control that will allow his abilities to stand out further as he develops physically. Doi is a 7.62 runner. On offense he has a quick bat that will get quicker over the next two years. From a slightly open stance, Doi loads his hands well and has a short swing that is frequently on time to the ball. His swing works well and his hands are good. During his swing Doi maintains good balance. His short and quick swing produces a lot of solid line drive contact. On defense Doi clearly knows how to play the game. Again, he simply needs time for his body to mature because all the skills are there. Doi has excellent feel for defense and seems to always position himself well on defense, getting a feel by paying attention to the hitter and type of pitcher that is on the mound. He makes quick flip throws with an accurate arm and his feet are in position to make plays. As stated, Doi is a young player that simply needs time for his body to mature, his baseball abilities are very good.
