Steve Essig is a 2021 C/2B with a 5-10 155 lb. frame from Commerce Township, MI who attends Orchard Lake St. Marys Prep. Medium and slender frame with room to fill throughout. Ran a 7.82 second 60 yard dash. Primary catcher, sets up behind the plate with a side saddle and a higher crouched set, receives the baseball with a firm left hand, comes out of his crouch well working into his release with mostly clean footwork, gets on top of his throws creating carry to the bag, 2.05 second best pop time. Righthanded hitter, sets up at the plate with a slightly open stance and a high hand set, bat waggles at load, stays compact with his hand path to the ball, showcased smoothness to his barrel with a feel for barreled contact, worked to all parts of the field hitting the ball out in front. Great student.
