David Ater is a 2019 OF/RHP/IF with a 6-1 170 lb. frame from Tacoma, WA who attends Charles Wright Academy. Medium frame with an athletic build and wiry strength. Primary outfielder with smooth paced, deliberate footwork while closing to the baseball. Clean glove actions while funneling and worked through exchange well. Showed good arm quickness while releasing from a low three-quarters arm slot, topped at 85 miles per hour. Also worked out defensively from the infield showing developing fluidity while surrounding the baseball. Releases from a taller throwing position creating accurate carry across the infield at 81 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an upright, open stance . Coils top half at load and works to contact with some linear lower half actions. Compact path to contact with a naturally lifted barrel plane through extension. Showed good hand quickness through the zone that generated solid bat speed through finish. Created hard, loud contact when squared utilizing a mid field to pull side approach. Also pitched showing a simple side step to small leg lift delivery. Stays tall on back side at gather and utilized lower half well. Quick arm circle at take back and released from a loose three-quarters slot. Fastball flashed some run to arm side in the upper 70's to low 80's, topped at 83 miles per hour. Slider had 9/4 shape with tight spin and solid sweep to glove side in the low 70's. Tends to slow arm speed slightly with slider offering. Showed developing command of the zone that will continue to progress with mechanical refinement. Named to the 2017 Northwest Showcase Top Prospect List.
