Lucas Downing is a 2027 SS/RHP, 2B with a 5-4 115 lb. frame from Marion, IA who attends Linn-Mar. He has a smaller frame with a thin build and plenty of physical development ahead of him. Ran the sixty yard dash in 8.19 seconds. Primary shortstop that is light on his feet and moves well to both sides of his body. He showed the ability to get into a good fielding position and features soft hands with a good feel for the glove. He made accurate throws across the diamond and was able to change arm slots effectively. Secondary right-handed pitcher that works from the third base side of the plate. He uses a knee to belt leg kick and does a nice job of working in line with the plate. He uses a long, circular arm action and fires from a 3/4 arm slot. He is able to generate some arm side run with his fastball and his curveball has nice vertical drop. Right-handed hitter that starts with a narrow, even base and an upright stance with high hands and a high back elbow. He uses a toe tap trigger for timing and showed nice looseness in his swing. He has an up-the-middle approach and looks to make line drive contact.
