Jack Tava is a 2021 1B/RHP with a 6-4 190 lb. frame from Toms River, NJ who attends Toms River North HS. Jack is a long, lean, and noticeably strong athletic presence. In addition to his skill on the diamond, Jack is also an accomplished student in the classroom. He ran a 7.45 60 yard dash. A primary first baseman, Jack displays an advanced skill set. He has a certain and comfortable, mature approach to playing 1B. He positions quickly, quietly and soundly. His footwork is elite. His glovework is sound and he transitions with routine effort and noticeable timing. His 82 mph throws hold their plane and are consistently accurate. Jack has a clue at first and his defensive ability alone, should allow him to play quite well at the next level. On the hill, Jack uses his long arms and legs to work down the slope quite well. His height presents an imposing figure on the mound. He utilizes a full wind up and hides the ball well behind his body. his mid-body leg lift and almost over the top arm action creates great deception which allows his 78-80 mph fastball to play up in velocity. His heater shows consistent arm side run and sink. His 69 mph, 12/6 breaking curveball is still a work in progress concerning tighter spin and bigger break, but he has the right idea and he can throw his only secondary pitch for strikes with routine effort. At the plate, Jack uses his length to create great leverage in his swing path. He makes consistently sound contact and gets his barrel to and throw the zone with commendable quickness. He can strike the baseball with force. Jack has positive upside in and with his game. A big senior year, that starts in the weight room, will help elevate his projectability.
