Ben Dekruyf is a 2018 IF/OF, RHP with a 6-1 195 lb. frame from Urbandale, IA who attends Urbandale. Medium frame with an athletic build. Frame projects for additional strength. Worked out defensively from first base showing deliberate footwork while ranging for and centering the baseball. Funnels the baseball with clean glove actions from a slightly deeper position. Loose arm circle at take back and released from a high three-quarters slot. Throws produced accurate carry across the infield topping at 82 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with a slightly crouched, slightly open stance and simple leg lift trigger. Stays on back side and works to contact with rotational lower half actions. Direct hand path to baseball with a slightly lifted barrel plane through extension. Consistently delivered bat head to baseball while creating bat speed through the zone. Created hard, loud contact throughout batting practice producing good carry to pull side. Also pitched utilizing a simple rock step to medium leg lift delivery. Stays tall on back side and creates coil over back leg. Worked to the plate with drop and drive actions while carrying momentum through finish. Long, loose arm circle at take back and released from a near over top arm slot. Fastball generated solid downhill tilt through the zone while sitting in the upper 70's to low 80's, topped at 81 miles per hour. Curveball had 12/6 shape with tight spin and late, hard depth when maintaining arm speed through extension. Tends to slow arm speed slightly with a changeup offering that had occasional sink. Consistently looked to fill the zone and challenge hitters. Flashed some feel for each edge of the plate with fastball early in counts. Very good student. Named to the 2017 Midwest Top Prospect Showcase, Top Prospect List.
