John Grill is a 2019 LHP/OF with a 5-10 180 lb. frame from New Providence, NJ who attends Governor Livingston. Medium frame with broad shoulders and present strength. Primary left handed pitcher with a smooth paced side step to medium leg lift delivery. Stays balanced at gather and works to the plate with drop and drive actions. Full arm circle at take back and released from a high energy, high three-quarters arm slot. Stayed on top of fastball offering well generated good downhill plane through the zone in the upper 70's to low 80's, topped at 83 miles per hour. Flashed the ability to create run and cut with fastball when working to each side of the plate. Curveball had 11/5 shape with looser spin and some depth. Displayed good depth when staying on top of offering at release. Also showed a slider offering in the upper 60's that produced tight spin with late sweeping tilt to glove side. Effectively kept hitters off balance while working to the bottom quadrants of the zone. Also worked out defensively from the outfield showing smooth, clean footwork while closing to the baseball. Funnels baseball off to side and worked through exchange efficiently. Created good carry to the bag at release topping at 84 miles per hour. Left handed hitter with an upright, open stance and large leg lift trigger. Worked to contact with rotational lower half actions. Loose hand path to baseball with a naturally lifted barrel plane through extension. Flashed present bat speed with good strength at contact when squared. Consistently looked to throw barrel head to contact and drive the baseball with intent. Good student as well.
