Ryan Fernandez is a 2020 LHP/1B with a 6-1 200 lb. frame from Beverly Hills, CA who attends Beverly Hills. Large frame with beginnings of strength. Primary left handed pitcher with a simple side step to high leg lift delivery. Stays tall on back side at gather and works to the plate with drop and drive actions. Loose arm circle at take back and released from a mid three-quarters arm slot. Fastball generated good downhill tilt through the zone with some natural cut to glove side in the upper 70's to low 80's, topped at 82 mph. Curveball showed 2/8 shape with good spin and sweeping depth in the mid 60's. Tends to slow body and arm down slightly with a changeup offering in the upper 60's.Displayed developing feel for the edges of the zone with each offering. Also worked out defensively from first base showing clean footwork while working off the bag and surrounding the baseball. Funnels out front and worked through exchange efficiently. Throws produced accurate carry to the bag topping at 79 mph. Switch hitter with an upright, open stance and reaching front side trigger from each side of the plate. Looked to create linear shift into contact with lower half. Solid hand path from each side with a line drive barrel plane through extension. Flashed slightly better bat speed and barrel whip from the right side of the plate. Stays balanced throughout and consistently looked to drive the ball to the middle of the field an pull side. Very good student as well.
