Nicholas Crandell is a 2020 C/RHP/1B with a 6-2 205 lb. frame from Johnston, IA who attends Johnston. Big and strong athletic build, pretty mature physically. Right handed hitter, hits from a very narrow stance with a large hanging front leg load, upper body hands driven swing, stays short to the ball with an inside swing approach, showed strength in his hands to create some jump off the barrel, very opposite field contact oriented swing, has the strength to open up his swing and look to drive the ball to all fields with authority. 7.50 runner, has good lower half flexibility and comes out of his crouch well, good arm strength with low carry on his throws, makes accurate throws, can improve his exchange and release. Also pitched, simple low hand side step delivery, high 3/4's arm slot with good angle to the plate, repeats his mechanics very well. Fastball topped out at 81 mph with good sink down in the zone. Slider showed depth to it and he threw it for strikes with confidence. Developing change up. Quality secondary pitcher. Improvement in his swing approach to take advantage of his strength will be the key to his development. Good student.
