Sam Munson is a 2008 SS/3B with a 6'2'', 185 lb. frame from Fond du Lac, WI who attends Fond du Lac HS. He has a strong, angular body that seems to still be growing and filling out. Munson's tools also keep getting better and better. He ran the 60 in 6.61 in Cincinnati and threw 88 mph during infield drills and looked very athletic doing it. While all the tools are there, Munson does lack game actions right now, perhaps the result of getting most of his repetitions against Wisconsin HS competition. Defensively, Munson shows good range for a bigger shortstop and nice hands at the ball and shows promise of being able to stay in the middle of the field as his actions loosen up. Offensively, Munson has a long, powerful swing with an upper cut swing plane. He has juice in his bat and the ball jumps off hard. Munson is still working on his timing on higher velocity pitchers but the tools are there. One area he'll have to work on as he refines his game is the looseness and quickness in his hips, which are a bit stiff now.
