Robert Long is a 2008 2B/SS with a 5'10'', 155 lb. frame from Durham, NC who attends Riverside. He has a live, compact build with some present strength. Long is a quick twitch athlete and that helps him in all areas of the game. He ran 7.03 hand timed on a slow track and has quick first step. Offensively, he has a balanced set up at the plate with good coil and load and has very quick hands to the ball. He made solid line drive pull contact against all types of pitchers and wasn't bothered at all by mid to upper 80's velocity on the inside half. He has some strength in his hands and the ball came off the bat well. Long looked most comfortable at second base on defense. He has compact, quick actions and showed good range. While he has good arm strength, he will have to work on his accuracy and combining a quick release with getting the ball to the base he's throwing to. Overall, Long is a high energy athlete with good baseball skills who whould be nice player at the next level. He is a good student, too.
