Sammy Silva is a 2018 3B/RHP/1B with a 6-2 195 lb. frame from Corpus Christi, TX who attends Corpus Christi Moody. Large frame with an athletic, strong build. Frame projects to support additional size with strength. Primary third baseman with clean footwork while ranging for and surrounding the baseball. Funnels the baseball from a slightly deeper position and works through exchange with smooth paced, deliberate actions. Primarily released from a three-quarters slot but flashed the ability to change arm action while on the run, topped at 75 miles per hour. Also worked out defensively from first base showing similar footwork while centering. Good range while moving off the bag and released from a three-quarters slot, topped at 73 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an upright, slightly open stance and simple front side trigger. Creates slight hand coil at load and works to contact on a loose path. Level, line drive barrel plane through extension. Swung with intent and generated good bat speed with present strength at contact. Ball jumped off the barrel when squared producing good carry to the pull side gap. Also pitched working exclusively from the stretch. Simple leg lift delivery and stays balanced at gather. Medium arm circle at take back and released from a high three-quarters to near over top slot. Fastball created some downhill plane through the zone in the mid to upper 70's, topped at 79 miles per hour. Breaking ball showed proper shape with solid spin and good depth in the mid 60's. Good student as well.
