2006 California Showcase-Aug 26 & 27
Robert Goldsmith is a 2007 RHP/1B,OF with a 6'1'', 155 lb. frame from Moorpark CA, who attends Moorpark HS. Goldsmith has a lanky, long body that is still physically maturing. As he continues to fill out over the next couple of years, his stuff should come along quite well. At this showcase Goldsmith showed that he is a prospect that needs to be followed. He has a clean, over the top arm action and maintains good rhythm during his delivery. He also gets out over his lead leg well and that extension adds some life to his pitches. Goldsmith's fastball was in the 80-82 mph range and topped at 83. As he gets stronger, expect him to move past the mid-80s. His best pitch was his curveball that had good spin and pretty late action. There was some lateral plane at the end of what was is basically a 12/6ish curveball. Goldsmith also throws a palmball and threw it with decent feel. His secondary stuff is particularly polished at this point. He is a strike thrower and has chance to continue to develop into a quality D1 prospect, particularly if he focuses on devloping the fastball. Goldsmith is a good student.
