Nathan Griffin is a 2019 SS/RHP/2B with a 5-11 145 lb. frame from Ames, IA who attends Ames HS. Medium frame with a lean, athletic build. Projects for additional size with strength. Ran a 7.53 sixty yard dash. Primary shortstop with compact, athletic footwork while closing to and surrounding the baseball. Clean glove actions while funneling the baseball with good fluidity while working through exchange. Showed good range while moving to each side. Showed solid arm strength across the infield topping at 81 mph. Throws produced good carry to the bag with accuracy. Also worked out defensively from the outfield showing smooth paced, deliberate footwork while closing to the baseball. Clean glove actions while working through transition. Creates good momentum through the baseball while working to throwing position. Released from a three-quarters arm slot topping at 77 mph. Throws creating low carry to the bag with accuracy. Right handed hitter with an upright, straight stance and lower hand set. Direct, compact path to contact that generated a line drive swing plane through extension. Primarily used a mid-field approach but flashed to barrel control to work to opposite field when staying balanced. Produced solid line drive contact between the outfield gaps when barrel was on time through the zone. Good student. Tools will continue to develop with physical maturity and repetition.
