Avery Cook is a 2019 1B/RHP with a 6-5 215 lb. frame from Utica, NY who attends Whitesboro High School. Extra-large, broad shouldered build with present strength proportioned throughout frame, room to still grow stronger. Ran a 7.96 60-yard dash. Primary first baseman, shows flexibility to actions around the bag, hands play well at the ball, short arm action through the back, gets on top of throws, clean release with accuracy and strength to throws across. Also pitched, high leg raise up past belt, full arm action through the back working to a three-quarters arm slot, gets on top and creates angle to the lower third of the strikes zone. Short life to fastball, topped out at 79 mph, can challenge hitters up in zone and can attack on the inner half. Induces weak contact, works around the zone, short depth to breaking ball with occasional sweep and 10-4 shape at 68 mph, moves well and shows athleticism coming off the mound. Righthanded hitter, begins with a wide base and uses a high leg lift trigger for timing in the box. Uses physical strength well to generate bat speed, long swing path through the zone with present strength and projects for more. Quick hands, shows the ability to impact the baseball to all fields, generates jump to the opposite field when extended and on time, interesting power potential. Very good student.
