Tom Abel is a 2019 SS/RHP with a 5-8 165 lb. frame from Derby, CT who attends Derby High School. Younger player with a lean, slender build and room to continue to fill out and add strength. Posted a 6.90 time in the 60 yard dash. Primary shortstop, got to the ball well, in a good position to throw, high release, and showed developing arm strength. At the plate, started with an open stance, high hand set, and toe tap timing mechanism. Still hand load, with an inconsistent swing path, and stays through the ball well. Needs additional rhythm and timing to swing, hit off front side at times, and showed the ability to get to all fields. Also pitched, side step into delivery, high leg raise past waist, pause before stride to plate, short stride, and threw from a three quarter arm slot. Worked 73-75 mph fastball low in the zone with slight arm side life effectively. Commanded the ball well low in the zone. Also showed slider that flashed sharpness at 67 mph. Good student.
