2020 South Top Prospect Games at Texas A&M
Brendan Solis is a 2021 2B/RHP, C, SS with a 6-1 180 lb. frame from Victoria, TX who attends Victoria West HS. Brendan is an athletic player who gives constant maximum effort. He shows quickness in his actions and possesses consistent fundamental ability. In addition to being a solid player, Brendan also performs admirably in the classroom. Brendan is a primary middle infielder whose tools play very well at second base. He positions quickly and his glovework is smooth. His 81 mph throws show firm carry and are accurate. Brendan also performed commendably as a catcher. His actions are consistently measured and fundamentally sound. He receives well and gains ground with routine effort. His 2.28 pop time and 72 mph velocity allow for his throws to be on target with regularity. At the plate, Brendan shows admirable skill. He displays a contact first mentality. His flatter bat path is highlighted by obvious strength and quickness in his hands. He gets his barrel to and through contact with some force. Although big power is not part of his offensive game, he did drive the ball to the gaps on a couple of occasions. On the mound, Brendan is a grinder and is obviously working to improve that part of his game. Although his velocity is not where he wants it to be, his ability to throw strikes and pitch to contact was/is noteworthy. He works the edges with his 73-76 mph fastball and mixes in a 66 mph curveball that shows sweeping 11/5 break and decent depth at the plate. Although pitching is probably not part of Brendan's big picture future, his willingness to toe the rubber and compete is an admirable quality for this young man who always gives maximum effort.
