Payton Jackson is a 2018 C/RHP/3B with a 5-11 175 lb. frame from Madison, AL who attends East Limestone HS. Medium frame with beginnings of strength. Frame projects to support additional size and strength with continued physical maturity. Ran a 7.72 sixty-yard dash. Primary catcher with a low set and good hip flexion while setting up to receive. Gains some ground while working out of crouch with smooth paced footwork. Clean exchanges while working through transition and released form a compact arm slot, topped at 70 miles per hour with a best workout pop time of 2.25. Also worked out defensively from the infield showing deliberate footwork while working through the baseball. Flashed some quickness while working through transition and released from a three-quarters arm slot topping at 75 miles per hour to the bag. Listed as a switched hitter, but only hit from the right side showing an upright, even stance. Lower half works to contact with linear actions generating occasional shift. Created slight top half coil at load prior to launching hand on a loose, level path to contact. Controlled the barrel well through the zone and consistently barreled up contact throughout batting practice. Also pitched showing a directional delivery with a side step start. Created some lower half drive to the plate with a clean arm swing through extension. Fastball showed straight actions to the plate with occasional downhill angle topping at 77 miles per hour. Curveball showed loose spin with some depth when located down in the zone. Also flashed a straight changeup in the mid 60's. Tools will continue to develop with maturity and repetition. Good student as well.
