Layton Hicks is a 2020 RHP/SS, 3B with a 6-2 193 lb. frame from Cincinnati, OH who attends New Richmond. Large frame with a solid, athletic build and present strength. Projects for additional strength. Ran a 7.99 sixty yard dash. Primary right handed pitcher, but worked out as a shortstop at this event. Works around the baseball well with smooth, athletic footwork. Clean glove skills while funneling baseball out front as well as to back hand. Good first step angles when moving to each side with developing range. Clean glove to hand exchanges while working through transition. Throws across the infield from a low three-quarters slot topping at 72 mph. Also worked out defensively from first base showing smooth glove action and footwork. Releases baseball on a more uphill path producing some carry to the gap. Flashed athletic actions while working around the bag and setting up to receive. Left handed hitter with a spread, open stance and high back elbow set. Lower half launches to contact with linear actions generating good shift. Creates some back side tilt producing an uphill swing plane on an extended path through extension. Flashed solid strength and jump off the barrel when contact was squared between the gaps. Very good student as well. Named to 2016 Ohio Valley Showcase Top Prospect List.
