2017 National Underclass Showcase-Main Event
Jose Aviles is a 2019 OF/RHP/IF with a 5-11 170 lb. frame from Hatillo, PR who attends Perkiomen. Medium build, lean and athletic frame with long limbs and strength present especially in lower half with even more room to fill throughout. Ran a 7.21 second 60 yard dash. Primary outfielder, good approach to ball, long arm action to a low 3/4 slot, extra steps into crow hop throws, could use lower half more into throws for even greater velocity, good arm strength with plenty of carry topping out at 87 from the outfield. Also pitched, deliberate delivery, long arm action up to a sidearm slot, good arm speed with an inconsistent release point, long stride down the mound struggling to get out over front foot, fastball topped out at 84 mph flashing arm side life. Switch hitter who only took reps from the left side, wide base with a spread out stance that gets too wide at times, high hand set, rotational actions with no weight transfer, could utilize the lower half moving into the point of contact for greater pop off of the barrel, pull side power approach, generates some back spin off of the barrel with slight carry.
