Tripp McKinlay is a 2020 SS/2B, 3B with a 5-11 165 lb. frame from Sarasota, FL who attends IMG Academy. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and a lean, projectable build with room to fill throughout moving forward. Ran a 7.15 60-yard dash. Primary shortstop, takes short and quick steps moving towards the ball, does a nice job of working through the ball with lower half and shows balance, soft hands out front, funnels into a compact arm action in the back, gets on top of throws and shows accuracy to the bag, arm strength will continue to develop moving forward. Righthanded hitter, begins with a slightly open stance and a high hand set and back elbow in the box. Utilizes a short stride moving into contact, upper body dominant swing. Works with a linear path through the zone and shows comfort working to the pull side. Does a nice job of creating contact out front and employs a contact oriented approach, projects well with additional physical strength. Very good student. Verbal commitment to Washington.
