Byron Smith is a 2019 3B/UT with a 5-8 182 lb. frame from Lexington, KY who attends Tates Creek HS. Medium frame with fantastic combination of strength and athleticism to physicality. Plus runner, clocked 60 yard dash time of 6.61 seconds. Sets up to hit from even, spread stance; coils back into load, hands work extremely well into swing, generates excellent bat speed, shifts weight well into swing and creates good leverage off of front side. Repeated swing quite well, showed consistently loud barrel skills with well-struck liners to all fields. Worked out defensively in a pair of spots. In the outfield, glove down early, fields deep between feet at times, has athleticism to actions, quick arm with quick release, clocked up to 86 mph on throws. Stood out in the infield, smoothness to footwork with excellent 3B profile/actions, fields cleanly, hands work well out front with clean funnel, gets off quick release with very good arm strength, clocked up to 87 mph across the diamond. Named to 2017 Ohio Valley Showcase Top Prospect List.
