Simon Lane is a 2019 RHP/OF with a 5-9 185 lb. frame from Hinsdale, IL who attends Hinsdale Central. Small frame with a solid build. Ran a 7.47 sixty yard dash. Primary right handed pitcher, hides the baseball well from a compact three-quarters arm action. Fastball has life to arm side ranging in the mid 70's, topped at 77 mph. Fastball has good heaviness at the plate inducing weak, ground ball contact. Curveball has good shape and depth in the upper 60's when located down in the zone. Also showed a slider with good spin and tilt when locating to glove side in the low 70's. Consistently pounded the strike zone with all pitches effectively missing barrels and inducing weak contact. Also worked out defensively from the outfield showing a compact arm circle back at separation and releasing from a three-quarters arm slot. Produces some momentum through transition with solid footwork. Was accurate to the bag with some carry, topped at 79 mph. Right handed hitter with an upright, slightly open stance. Hands load to a deeper position creating a slight arm bar. Lower half launches to contact with rotational actions and some shift. Flashed good hand quickness to contact with a line drive swing plane. Shows smooth actions through extension that resulted in consistent hard contact. Also showed the barrel control and strength to produce hard line drives to all fields. Very good student as well.
