Niko Diaz is a 2018 OF/LHP, 1B with a 5-6 145 lb. frame from Murrieta, CA who attends Vista Murrieta. Compact frame with a lena, athletic build. Projects for additional size with strength. Ran a 7.51 sixty yard dash. Primary outfielder, showed smooth athletic actions while closing on the baseball. Clean glove actions while working through baseball and transition. Curl hop lower half while creating momentum into throws. Clean arm action with good whip through release from a three-quarters slot. Throws produces some carry to the bag with accuracy, topping at 76 mph. Left handed hitter with a balanced, straight stance and quiet leg lift trigger. Lower half launches to contact with linear actions with solid shift. Smooth, line drive swing plane and attacked the baseball out front generating solid extension through the baseball. Works the baseball to all fields showing solid hand and barrel control throughout the zone. Consistently squared up contact throughout batting practice with good jump of the barrel for present frame. Balanced, repeatable mechanics while at the plate with a high contact approach. Power will contiue to develop with physical development. Also pitched showing a simple side step delivery into a high leg kick at gather. Creates front side hip coil at balance showing pocket and numbers. Lower half gets back on line well while driving downhill to the plate. Releases from a high three-quarters arm slot with good extension at finish. Fastball has some sinking action down in the zone in the low 70's, topped at 75 mph. Curveball has 1/7 shape with loose spin and good depth. Effectively changes speeds while primarily locating on the outer edge of the plate. Showed good feel and command for both pitches while the ability to spot and locate. Induced weak ground ball contact each inning of work. Solid two way prospect, will continue to develop with physical matuirty and repetition. Very good student as well.
