Trayden Tamiya is a 2018 SS/2B with a 5-6 130 lb. frame from Hilo, HI who attends Waiakea. Compact frame with a lean, athletic build. Primary shortstop with smooth, athletic footwork while ranging for and surrounding the baseball. Clean glove actions while funneling the baseball out front and worked through exchange quickly. Solid arm strength at released generating accurate carry across the infield topping at 84 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an upright, slightly open stance and high back elbow set. Direct, compact path to contact with a naturally lifted plane through extension. Generated very good bat speed for size and looked to turn the barrel to contact. Ball jumped off barrel well generating good carry to the pull side gap. Flashed the barrel feel to work to all fields as well. Also pitched utilizing a simple side step delivery. Stays flexed on back side and works to the plate with drop and drive actions. Medium arm circle at take back and released from a compact three-quarters arm slot. Fastball comes out of hand clean creating occasional downhill tilt, topped at 79 miles per hour. Slows arm speed slightly with a changeup offering that had occasional cut to glove side. Consistently filled the strike zone and challenged hitters. Excellent student. Named to the 2017 West Academic Showcase Top Prospect List.
