Tyler Horvath is a 2017 1B/RHP with a 6-4 230 lb. frame from Cresco, PA who attends Pocono Mountain East Academy. Extra-large, broad shouldered frame with a strong, mature build and present strength throughout. Primary first baseman, fields the ball out front and moves well off the bag, full arm action with some whip through back and gets on top of throws, comes out of hand well, some effort at release but shows accuracy to frame. Also pitched, small side step moving into delivery with a slight hip turn at the top. Short arm action through the back with a high three-quarters release point, shows quickness to arm action and generates occasional running life to fastball that topped out at 78 mph. Short stride down the mound and consistently gets fastball down in zone, attacks with fastball but mixed in an 11-5 curveball with short depth. Righthanded hitter, slight crouch into start of swing with load. Line drive swing plane with nice bat speed through the zone, utilizes a middle of the field approach and shows strength off the barrel when squared. Full path through the zone with nice bat speed and projects for additional strength in the future. Very good student.
