2006 PG Pitcher/Catcher Indoor-Feb 11-12
Michael Funk is a 2006 RHP/3B/SS with a 6'1'', 180 lb. frame from Leawood KS, who attends Blue Valley North HS. He has a well proportioned athletic build and good overall athletic actions. Funk has a very simple turn and throws delivery that he repeats very well and stays right on line with the plate. He throws somewhat like a primary infielder would but with more polish. His arm action is compact and quick. Funk threw his fastball consistently 82-83 mph with good life and spotted his fastball just about anywhere he wanted to. He looks like the type of pitcher who probably throws in the mid-80's during the spring. His best pitch was a 70 mph curveball that had quality spin and bite, with a big downer break. Funk's change up at 74 mph had good deception as well and he could throw it more often with increased effectiveness. Funk comes right after hitters and pounds the strike zone with good pitches. He knows what he's doing on the mound. Funk also showed some prospect tools as a hitter. He has a nice load and a level, strong swing. The ball came off his bat well and he showed confidence against the better pitchers. He's a very good follow for the right type of college program. Funk is also a very good student.
