2005 South Top Prospect Showcase
Hipp is a 5-11, 165 lb outfielder from Texas with a live athletic body. He has very good defensive tools, with a loose, strong arm that registered 85 mph during outfield drills and 7.04 speed and good first step quickness. Hipp has a short, wristy swing at the plate and is looking to make hard contact to the right side of the field. He has very little lower half involvement in his swing and could open up the entire field if he got his hips and legs involved in his swing. Hipp had some good swings during the showcase games and has the fast twitch actions and projectable strength to keep improving as a hitter. Hipp also took a turn on the mound and threw 80 mph from a straight over the top release point that didn't look natural, especially after seeing him throw from the outfield. He could probably add some velocity immediately with a lower release point because his arm works well. Overall, a good projectable athlete.
