2021 Mid-Atlantic Prospect Showcase
Xavier Cortez is a 2023 SS/RHP with a 5-8 170 lb. frame from Vineland, NJ who attends Vineland Sr High-South. Compact athletic build with good present strength. Right handed hitter, hits from a straight stance with a tight hand load, works his lower body well into contact, short and compact swing with mid field to opposite field line drive contact, has consistent timing and good barrel control, high contact/high average approach. 7.66 runner in the sixty. Clean defensive actions in the middle infield, clean hands with a clean funnel out front, stays balanced well, good arm strength with a compact arm action. Also pitched and has two-way potential on the mound. Compact wind up with a 3/4's arm action and simple, repeatable mechanics. Showed a nice three-pitch mix with a mid-80's fastball, a big breaking curveball and fading change up, threw all three pitches for strikes in a quick and dominant inning. Good student. Good student.
