2006 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase
Kevin Ruiz is a 2008 OF with a 6'1'', 175 lb. frame from Alpharetta GA, who attends Wesleyan School. He is mature physically for his age and has good present strength. Ruiz uses his strength well to create bat speed. He has a long swing with good extension and some lift at the finish for loft power. Ruiz centers the ball consistently well and the ball jumps off his bat hard. He could get shorter to the ball as he can get jammed on inside heat and hits best with his hands extended. Ruiz ran the 60 in 7.19 and threw 84 mph from the outfield with a long arm stroke. We've heard that Ruiz has pitched in the past and touched 90 mph withhis fastball but he didn't pitch at this showcase. Ruiz doesn't project much for a 2008 prospect but he has very good hitting skills and good overall athleticism. He is a very good student.
