2020 South Prospect Showcase
Daniel Garcia is a 2023 OF/RHP/3B with a 5-8 145 lb. frame from Spring, TX who attends Grand Oaks HS. Daniel is an obviously talented, up and coming, player who has a sound current skill set that is only going to get better. He shows a certain competitive fire and plays with great energy and even better effort. In addition to his noticeable ability on the diamond, Daniel is an outstanding scholar who achieves at the highest level. He ran a sound 7.23 60 yard dash, which is plus average for his age group. A primary outfielder, Daniel uses quick and agile movements to field the ball. He positions well and plays through the fielding action with noticeable, yet controlled, momentum. He has a lot of twitch in that body. His glove is soft and sure and he transitions at an elite level. His 90 mph throws - yes 90 - were firm and true all the way to the base. He also took his turn on the mound. He has a very mature, calm and cool presence while he is on the bump. His three pitch mix is highly advanced for a rising HS sophomore. His easy actions are highlighted by a shorter takeaway and extended finish. He pitches down the slope with a purpose and a plan. He works off his active 81-83 mph fastball that he commands to both sides of the plate. His heater shows impressive riding life up in the zone. His 75 mph, 11/5 breaking slider, is a tough out pitch to RHH. It shows tight spin and late, sharp break. His slider is only going to get better because he has a sure feel for its release and delivery. Daniel also showed a competent 71 mph change-up that tunnels from his fastball release point and has tumble at the plate. His change is a sound pitch that he could probably throw more, especially to LHH. Daniel has an very promising future in the game. His exposure to higher level and more intense HS practice, as well as Texas HS competition, will surely help him as his career continues. The weight room must become his best friend, if he wants to play at the most elite level.
