Matt Hartshorn is a 2019 RHP/1B with a 6-3 200 lb. frame from Toms River, NJ who attends Toms River South. Large, athletic frame with broad shoulders and nice present strength to frame, additional room to fill throughout moving forward. Ran a 7.76 60-yard dash. Primary right handed pitcher with a simple side step to medium leg lift delivery. Stays balanced at gather and works to the plate with drop and drive lower half actions. Compact arm circle at separation and released from a three-quarters arm slot showing good arm speed through finish. Hides the baseball well in back and creates solid jump of out hand with a fastball offering that sat in the low to mid 80's, topped at 86 miles per hour. Curveball had 11/5 shape with loose spin and solid depth to the bottom of the zone. Also flashed a changeup offering that had occasional sink with fade to arm side in the low 70's. Consistently pounded the zone and looked to change speed and eye level of hitter late in counts. Also worked out defensively from first base utilizing smooth paced, clean footwork while centering the baseball. Fluid glove actions while funneling and working through exchange. Generated accurate, on line carry while throwing across the infield. Right handed hitter with a narrow, balanced stance and high hand set. Swings with intent to drive the baseball on a slightly leveraged plane through extension. Flashed solid bat speed and generated hard, loud contact between the gaps when squared. Outstanding student. Named to the 2017 Sunshine Northeast Showcase Top Prospect List.
