Joathan Rivera Rodriguez is a 2018 RHP with a 6-1 190 lb. frame from Caguas, PR who attends International Baseball Academy. Large build, physical frame with square shoulders and present strength throughout and especially in the lower half. Only pitched at the event, righthanded pitcher, rocker step with a pause leading into wind, high leg lift, longer and mostly clean arm action up to a high 3/4 slot, arm works pretty well, some effort at release, creates angle downhill, stays online getting good back leg drive. Fastball is mostly straight creating plane when located in the lower third of the zone, fastball topped out at 84 mph, mixed in a sharp curveball, tends to slow down delivery on changeup tipping it to hitters, lots of feel for changeup and was very deceptive with good fade when fastball arm speed was maintained, changeup comes from similar tunnel as fastball, maintained 80-84 mph velocity range for the duration of outing, dominant four inning start in game. Great student. Named to 2018 World Uncommitted Showcase Top Prospect List.
