Tony Barreca is a 2018 C/OF with a 5-10 175 lb. frame from Long Grove, IA who attends North Scott. Medium frame with a lean, athletic build. Projects for additional strength while maintaining athleticism. Ran a 6.89 sixty-yard dash. Primary catcher with a low, athletic stance while receiving the baseball. Quick footwork while gaining ground out of crouched with smooth, fluid exchanges. Baseball comes out of hand quickly from a compact three-quarters slot. Throws produced accurate, on line carry topping at 73 miles per hour. Best workout pop time of 1.94. Also worked out defensively from the outfield showing athletic, clean footwork while closing to and working through the baseball. Clean glove actions while funneling and working through transfer. Released from a compact arm slot producing accurate, stiff carry to the bag topping at 85 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an upright, slightly open stance and simple front side trigger. Stays balanced throughout and works to contact with rotational lower half actions. Simple, direct hand path to contact and created an uphill barrel plane through extension. Dropped barrel head to pitches located down in the zone well, but also showed the ability to create lift and work to each gap. Excellent student.
